5 TIPS TO PREPARE YOUR PHOTOSHOOT

MAKING THE MOST OF A PHOTOSHOOT FOR YOUR BRAND.

You have been thinking of how to make your brand more consistent and top-of-the-mind on social media?

Today, an essential part of the entrepreneurial endeavor ends up being about your visuals. As it turns out, the texts/ editorial content can be written from your home office, but the images are much harder to take on your own. You may need images for your website to start with, but then comes all the social media platforms. And that becomes a constant struggle. It has to be consistent, yet not too repetitive. It also has to be harmonious, yet not always in the same environment.

So, how do you keep your IG grid/ website/ Facebook feed lively, very much active, yet true to your brand? In other words, how do you optimize a photoshoot, so that it helps you get the quantity of images you need to cover your editorial content for the next few months?

France Brunel (the founder of a wellness platform called YOOM) did just that when we met at the beach back in July to create her blog’s visual content for the next few months.

Here are 5 tips on how we got ready for it:

  1. Make a list of all your potential posts and discuss with the photographer ways to illustrate them. Don’t be shy on the number of shots, a shoot day on location is long and you will have time for it all!

  2. Share with the photographer the images you would like to try and recreate. A Pinterest board is a great way to start.

  3. Once you have a clear idea of what can be shot, list all props/ clothing needed for the day and share it with the photo studio. They can help you receive them on time or have some items at the studio.

  4. Show up as who you are. From what I have experienced in previous photoshoots, you do not have to give your 100% energy at all times. If you are featured on the photos, feel at ease to rest in between sessions. You may take some time on your own and it is totally okay to keep your energy for when the camera is on. It will be fun, and this is a time for you. If you are a mum like me, these moments are rare, and I tend not to be able to let aside my to-do list of the day. It is a good exercise actually. Take that day, request from the photographer a welcoming warm drink ;) and enjoy the process…

  5. Remember that your brand is a part of you. Be true to yourself and it will all come along nicely.

A photoshoot is when you get out of the office and create. In that sense, a shoot is a chance for you to get creative and give life to your brand, your products…. The photographer is simply an experienced companion who will assist you in the process. They know about light, composition, colors but they know much less about you/ your product/ your brand. Prepare it well and thoroughly prior to the shoot, so that you trust your intuition and enjoy the process on the day.

Here are a couple shots from our shoot:

“Alexia and her team were the ideal mix of professional and fun on set! They were always keeping an eye out for the best light and the most aesthetic composition while keeping the process light-hearted and joyful. They made me forget I was in front of a camera and encouraged me to experiment with ideas. We had a blast and I think it shows through the photos.” - France Brunel

To share a little of the behind the scenes with you, France is a long-life friend, inspiring woman who recently launched a wellness blog called @liveYoom. She is a French, wellness entrepreneur living in NY. She was born in France – and yes, she’s named after her own country :) As she studied the five-thousand-year-old Indian health system, she noticed many similarities with French culture: both have an intuitive, relaxed, gentle, and balanced outlook on wellbeing. Drawing from both the principles of Ayurveda and the French way of life, she launched YOOM based on the belief that something is only good for us (and sustainable in the long run) if it achieves two things: answer our body’s unique needs and bring joyful pleasures to our lives. And I love that.

Thank you, France, for giving me the opportunity to be part of Yoom’s team for the day and for your trust in the process! I am grateful for our friendship & creative ventures! I honestly had a blast. But above all, I am a sincere advocate of Yoom and very curious to see all the benefits of living a fuller and healthier life. Alejandro, Evita & I have been trying to incorporate to our routine some ayurvedic components already and we thank you for that.
